Change is an inevitable part of life, encompassing both anticipated and unexpected transitions. Whether you’re preparing for marriage, adjusting to parenthood, embarking on a new career, or facing unforeseen challenges, navigating life transitions can be daunting. But you don’t have to go through it alone.
California Schools VEBA members are invited to join our eight-week Navigating Life Transitions Program and embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
Led by licensed therapist Crystal Powers, MA, LMFT, our group provides a supportive, confidential environment where you can embrace change and thrive amidst uncertainty.

Program Overview
You have the freedom to join any or all of the eight sessions, whether in-person or virtual — the choice is yours.
Virtual: Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 pm on Zoom

Here’s what you can expect to cover each week:
Week 1: Introduction to Life Transitions
- Understand the four types of life transitions: Anticipated, Unanticipated, Nonevent, and Sleeper.
- Establish group rules and what to expect.
Week 2: Perception of Change
- Explore how coping styles influence our perception of change.
- Foster a deeper understanding of personal coping mechanisms.
Week 3: Nutrition and Brain-Gut Health
- Learn from Chef Leslie and Michele McNiff, RN about how nutrition and gut health plays a role in supporting our physical and mental well-being.
Week 4: The Seven Stages of Change
- Learn about the stages of change: Denial, Realization, Resistance, Letting Go, Searching, Understanding Meaning, and Change Acceptance.
- Gain insight into the process of embracing change.
Week 5: Adjusting to New Roles and Responsibilities
- Discuss the challenges of adapting to new roles, responsibilities, and routines.
- Learn strategies for managing transitions effectively.
Week 6: Coping Strategies and Resilience
- Explore practical coping strategies for navigating life transitions.
- Celebrate progress and resilience.
Week 7: Introduction to Recovery
- Introduction to Mindfulness, Meditation, Sleep-Hygiene and Sound Healing.
- Learn how these techniques play a role in supporting our well-being and journey through change.
Week 8: Sharing Resources and Closure
- Exchange community resources, books, and websites for ongoing support.
- Reflect on your journey and accomplishments.
