California Governor Passes Assembly Bill No. 1124

Sep 29, 2020 — On September 29, 2020 Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB1124, an important piece of legislature sponsored by California Schools VEBA that will bring health care innovation back to California and will help lower health care costs.

This bill authorizes two pilot programs— one in Northern California and one in Southern California— to allow employers to contract directly with hospitals and doctors for the health care services for VEBA Members under a capitated system—which means all health care services are provided at a set price. This format provides efficiencies in high-quality care for patients and a guaranteed income for providers.

If California Schools VEBA is able to participate in this pilot, our work would focus on increasing access to mental health care services, improved health care quality, and cost reductions for our VEBA Members and their families.
