Pilar Murillo was born and raised in La Paz, Bolivia. She moved to San Diego when she was 10 years old, graduated Mt. Carmel High School in 2010 and then from San Diego Mesa College with an Associates of Science degree in Nutrition and an Associates of Science degree in Nutrition and Fitness in 2012. Pilar’s passion for helping others reach their health and wellness goals began to flourish when she started her career as a personal trainer. Knowing how confusing and intimidating the world of nutrition, exercise and wellness could be, Pilar is passionate about helping Members navigate the wellness world. She believes in collaborating with Members and empowering them to use their own strengths to forge a path to success.
As a Well-Being Coach at the VEBA Resource Center, Pilar collaborates with Members to cultivate a healthy relationship with food and an intentional approach to exercise and movement. A caring and empathetic professional, Pilar strives to create a comfortable and non-intimidating environment for Members in order to help them reach their goals. By forming a relationship with each Member, she encourages ideas, plans and motivation to be shared openly but also understands every individual has a different path in their journey. She combines her extensive training in fitness, nutrition, yoga and behavior change to assist Members in bridging the gap between mind and body, and helps them propel forward to a healthy state of being.
Pilar holds several certifications. She is a Certified Health Coach with the American Council on Exercise, as well as a Certified YIN Yoga Teacher from the Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla. Additionally, she is recognized as a Certified Personal Trainer and Women’s Fitness Specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She enjoys outdoor rock climbing with her husband as well as practicing yoga and/or Pilates, chasing after her two-year-old, reading books or acting as her husband’s sous chef.
